The rise in coronavirus cases has prompted Canberra to shut down all the non-essential services.

This measure is set to be enforced from Monday 23 March.

The Australian Government announced on Monday this measure is going to be enforced so as to contain the spread of COVID-19.

ACT Minister Andrew Barr announced that all the non-essential services would be closed.

All schools will move to online classes starting from Tuesday.

In his statement, he said that the move is in the best interest of all Canberrans and it will help to slow down the spread of this virus in the community.

However, he promised that all residents will continue getting the essential services they need like supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, and others.

The move to the shutdown has also been taken by Victoria.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that from Monday only essential services remain open.

This is a national move to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Scott Morrison announced this when he was speaking in Canberra on Sunday night.

Social distancing was the strongest weapon against this virus.

But since people have failed to do that many are now at risk.

Therefore stronger measures have been put for everyone to adhere to starting from Monday Midday. There is a total of 355 cases with 61 new cases in Victoria. Australia has 337,000 cases.

These measures had to be enforced. Although it had been agreed upon that children should go to school today, that has since been changed in Victoria.

In a press conference, it was announced by Gladys Berejiklian who is NSW Premier that parents should keep their children home.

All schools in Victoria will be shut down.

Although the news spread from Canberra to Victoria, Melbourne.

The move is across all Australia. All parts of Australia are required to follow these instructions.

When he was speaking Morrison said that this measure that the government has put in place is expected to be there for at least 6 months.
