The Star casino in Sydney is set to open its doors soon the public. The casino was closed recently due to the covid-19 pandemic as it was deemed a non-essential service. However, as the restrictions lessen, Sydney will soon see The Star Casino will open its doors to the public sometime this week.

As they had their doors closed, The Star Group was busy behind the scenes making sure to secure its place in the Australia land-based casino gaming sector. While online casinos remained unscathed during the covid-19 pandemic forced to shut down and quarantine period, it was not the same for land-based casino operators. As such, land-based casinos like The Star had to make sure that they come up with means to keep their businesses afloat during and after the pandemic.

On that note, The Star Entertainment Group revealed that it had linked a new 20-year tax agreement with the government of New South Wales.

The Star 20-Year Tax Agreement With NSW

The Star Entertainment with NSW will see the casino playing in the tax boundaries with the Crown Sydney Casino. This means that both casinos will pay a flat tax rate of 29%.

For the pokie machines, The Star will have to pay a flat tax of 32% from 2022 to 2024. And  33% within the first 3 years of the agreement. This will gradually rise to at most 34% in the last 14 years of the agreement.

This agreement with the NSW government has the Star Group happy with the flat tax regime. Currently, The Stars Entertainment Group tax was set to increase as revenue increases and to decrease as revenue decreases as well. This agreement came as The Star was set to open its doors to the public after it was closed on the 23rd of March 2020.

The Star Grand Reopening

The Star Group is set to open its doors to the public sometime this week. It will reopen private gaming rooms and up to 12 food and beverage areas as well. However, to reopen its doors The Stars Group will have to follow the following rules:

  1. Up to 500 loyalty club members on an invite-only basis
  2. 50 seated to be allowed at food and beverage areas

While this will mean that the casino is opening at an optimum level, it is still a start. When the casino closed its doors, they had to let go of at least 90% of its staff members. This is about 8 100 staff members.

Conclusion

The Stars Group seems to have timed it business properly, as they are opening the casino alongside an agreement with the government of NSW. The flat tax regime will allow for the casino to have steady tax payment, while the opening of the casino doors will allow for players to once enjoy the joys of land-based casino gaming.
