The government in Queensland has finally approved the development of the much awaited Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. The $3 billion project was proposed by the Destination Brisbane Consortium. The project is inclusive of hotels, a new casino as well as a residential complex. Read on to find out more about this project.
New Brisbane Casino Given a Go-Ahead
The consortium is half-owned by Star Entertainment Group. Star Entertainment Group happens to be one of Australia’s top casino operators. Not long ago, the consortium applied to build a world-class precinct at the Brisbane CBD. They were fortunate enough to get the proposal approved by the QLD government. This was announced by Star Entertainment in a recent filing with the ASX (Australian Securities Exchange).
The filing states that the Star will review the development approval terms. They will progress the next steps for the project according to the development agreements with the state of Queensland. They will do this together with their consortium partners, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and the Far East Consortium.
The project application was assessed by many government organizations. These government organizations included:
- the Department of Transport and Main Roads
- the Brisbane City Council
- Queensland Heritage Council
- the Department of Environment
- Heritage protection
- Queensland Government Architect
- South Bank Corporation
- The Queensland Urban Design and Places Panel.
Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Precinct: What to Expect
The multibillion-dollar project will cover about 27.3 hectares overall. They will be occupying 12 hectares of the existing government-owned land. They will also be reclaiming 15.3 hectares of the Brisbane River.
The flamboyant resort promises to be splendid. It will have a casino, 5 hotels, 2000 apartments, 50 restaurants and bars, and retail spaces. The precinct also promises to use of existing heritage-listed buildings this will make it pretty much integrated. The government has also approved a pedestrian bridge. The bridge will connect the resort to the existing South Bank Parklands which is right opposite the river.
The resort will, furthermore, accommodate numerous new buildings which will include fancy towers up to 74 storeys.
Star Entertainment has promised to release an update on the construction of the project. This will be released together with a report of their first-half financial results for the year 2018.
