James Packer announced earlier in March that he was resigning as director of Crown Resorts. He said that he was also officially stepping down from the board. The reason for the resignation has been cited as James Packer undergoing treatment for mental issues. In recent years, Packer has been having a difficult time and perhaps the stresses have caught up with him.
John Alexander, the CEO of Crown Resorts, refused to elaborate on why Packer was resigning following the announcement. He only said that the company appreciated his contributions and also respected his decision. A spokesman for Packer’s personal investment firm has, however, released a statement. He said Mr Packer was receiving treatment for mental health problems. Because of this, Packer was going to be stepping back from all of his current commitments.
At the moment, Packer is believed to be in the US receiving treatment for his issues. It is thought that the treatment is for anxiety and depression. For some time, Packer is said to have had a troubled relationship with Crown resorts Board. Packer resigned from the board originally in 2015 and only returned in 2017.
Packer’s Professional and Personal Problems
In recent years, Packer has seen a number of personal and professional struggles. Crown Resorts was forced to reduce its international operations. This was following the arrest of some of its workers in China. Ultimately, Packer was forced to reduce his share in Melco-Crown. When Packer and Lawrence Ho founded Melco-Crown, the intention was to build integrated casino resorts in Macau and the Philippines.
James Packer was again forced to resign from the Alon Project in Las Vegas. Finally, just recently, Packer has had some more personal issues as well. The most notable being hiss break up with singer Mariah Carey. This propelled him into to the spotlight. Soon, he found himself on the covers on many different celebrity magazines. Packer has admitted to becoming more and more reclusive. This, in turn, has caused him to start losing friends.
